How Dr. Genevieve Tuveson Tailors Care to Meet Her Patients’ Individual Needs

Words by Maggie Downs

When it comes to helping patients live their healthiest lives, Dr. Genevieve Tuveson believes in meeting them where they are. As a primary care physician with DAP Health — at its Sunrise campus at the corner of Vista Chino and North Sunrise Way in Palm Springs — Tuveson brings a commitment to personalized care that’s rooted in compassion and understanding, treating every patient as an individual with unique needs, goals, and challenges.

After practicing in New York City and Los Angeles, Tuveson’s path to DAP Health was driven by a powerful motivation: a deep commitment to providing compassionate, preventive care to an underserved community. With a focus on prevention and accessibility, she saw DAP Health as a place where she could make a meaningful difference, helping patients take charge of their health in an environment designed to meet their needs. “The mission and values of DAP Health are what drew me here,” she shares.

To Tuveson, providing care means more than standard medical protocols. It’s about moving forward at the pace that’s right for each individual, helping them gain control over their health within the context of their lives. This approach has proven particularly impactful in managing chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Tuveson collaborates with patients to make manageable lifestyle adjustments, prioritizing sustainable changes over quick fixes. “Each patient is unique,” she stresses, “and by working within the context of their lives, we can make a real impact.”

Tuveson recognizes the challenges patients face within today’s health care landscape. “I think it’s very difficult to navigate our current health care system for patients and for providers alike. Specifically, historically marginalized folks have a harder time,” she says, mindful of the systemic issues that can hinder access to health care, and forever striving to bridge those gaps. “Medicine has become more about efficiency and checking boxes, but that’s not something I’m interested in perpetuating. There’s also an art to medicine, and people aren’t simply boxes to check.”

That’s why addressing social drivers of health is essential to her practice. She works to ensure her patients have the resources they need to succeed, even if it means helping them overcome barriers like transportation, affordability, or other life challenges. “I take pride in my ability to impact the social drivers of health that prevent someone from getting to the table,” she says. She recalls one patient with uncontrolled diabetes who faced other life instabilities. By creatively leveraging DAP Health’s services and collaborating with other departments, the treatment was tailored to the patient’s unique circumstances, easing the path to better health.

Building trust is at the heart of Tuveson’s work. She believes in transparency, taking time to explain test results and treatment plans, and creating an environment where patients feel respected and supported. “I think people are starting to become more interested in being proactive and going to a doctor in an environment that is safe and informative rather than one that’s prescriptive,” she says.

Tuveson invites new patients to DAP Health with an approach to preventive care grounded in empathy, accessibility, and genuine commitment. “I’m hopeful that by meeting the patient where they are — discussing with them what their health goals are — I can help make the system work for them,” she says.
